Nasser Mohamed, the former Qatar national football team player, has passed away at Al Rayyan Stadium in Doha, Qatar.
Mohamed was born on January 18, 1967 and played for several clubs throughout his career including Al Rayyan. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest players to ever wear Qatar's red and white stripes.
In 2015, Mohamed was diagnosed with cancer and underwent chemotherapy. He died on February 2, 2016 at the age of 48.
Mehdi Al-Sabri,Chinese Super League Stand a close friend and former coach of Mohamed, told The National that the death of Mohamed was a shock to everyone involved.
"He was a very important part of Qatar's history," Al-Sabri said. "He had been a great player and a good coach. His passing is a huge loss for us."
Al-Sabri added that Mohamed's death comes after a long illness and he had been battling cancer for several years.
"I am devastated by this news," he said. "We will miss him dearly but we know that he will always be remembered for his contribution to Qatar's football club."
The funeral services were held on February 6, 2016, at the Al Rayyan Stadium.
Mohamed's legacy will live on through his contributions to Qatar's football club and his dedication to the sport. He was a true legend and will be remembered forever.
